Application for Provisional, Full, or Associate Membership

The Board of Ordained Ministry receives applications annually between July 1 and August 15. Please read the following information carefully, and we look forward to hearing from you as you respond to God’s continued call in your ministry.

Please note the Center for Clergy Excellence will be closed for the July 4 holiday. Rest assured that your application (sent to has been received and will be manually processed to as soon as we are available.

To request an application packet
For all conference relationships, download, complete, and submit the following application form via email to the Center for These forms are only available for download from July 1 to August 15 and they must be received via email no later than August 15, 2019.

It will be a great help to the office if you would save and submit this document using the following naming format:  Application2020 LastName_FirstName
As confirmation of receipt for the above submission, you will receive the expanded application packet for the relationship you are seeking. This packet will contain detailed instructions and specific deadlines for your papers, materials, and interviews with the Board of Ordained Ministry. 

The online candidate and file management system Pathways to Ministry is now UMCARESplus. You will receive an email invitation to register a UMCARES account. Should you need assistance with how to login and navigate the system, please check out the resources found here

In order to complete the above forms, as well as open and read the expanded application packet, you will need the latest version of Adobe Reader. Please be aware that Apple/Mac computers default to a “viewer” program which will not correctly render or open a PDF file, unless you have manually set Adobe Reader as your default program for this file extension.

Informal Advisory Volunteers (Word) updated September 2016
A number of our past and present candidates have asked about informal advisors who would be willing to be contacted about reading papers, participating in mock interviews and generally being helpful about sharing their experiences in applying for Full Membership and Ordination. This list of ordained clergy have volunteered to serve in this capacity.
