Certified Lay Ministers (CLM) Courses

Zoom Sessions – 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

September 11, October 2, and November 6, 2022

Cost: $75

It is with great joy that the VAUMC announces the first offering of Certified Lay Minister (CLM) training this fall!

To become a CLM, the lay person must complete the BASIC and Spiritual Gifts courses through LSA. The individual then takes four modules of training, meets before DCOM for recommendation to the Board of Laity, and is approved by the Board of Laity. They require the support of their local church and the district as they work through the modules.

Module One will be offered September-November with 3 Zoom meetings and the rest of the work asynchronous. All coursework is online. Cost is $75 and covers the cost of the CLM Module One training book. There are four modules in all, which will be offered this fall through spring 2024 to complete the entire training.

*Register for CLM Training here!

Course will be taught by the Rev. Dr. Joanna Dietz and Mrs. Jenn Robinson O’Brien. For more information contact Joanna Dietz [email protected]

*Registration closes August 31.

Public prayer differs from private prayer. It is something we learn; it is something that can be taught. This course may challenge some of your assumptions, test some of your preconceived ideas, stretch your thinking, and enrich both your private and public prayer life. It will, at the very least, present you with an opportunity to grow in the discipline of leading public prayer.
The required book for this course is: Shaping the Prayers of the People: The Art of Intercession by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher.

The course will be offered Oct. 15, 22, and 29 from 9 am-12:30 pm. You must attend 10 hours in order to receive a certificate.  If less than 6 registers, the course will be canceled and rescheduled in 2023.  Each participant must attend all three (3) sessions to receive a certificate of completion.
This course is an Advanced Lay Servant Course which counts as the required ‘Prayer’ course for Lay Speaker Seekers. Click here to register.
