The Virginia Conference has formed a new task force to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in ministry and administrative contexts.
The AI Task Force was established following recent conversations among Conference leadership, recognizing the growing presence of AI in areas such as communication, education, ministry, and organizational life. The group has been charged with helping the Conference approach this emerging technology with care, clarity, and theological grounding.
The work of the task force will focus on identifying both opportunities and areas requiring thoughtful discernment. This includes considering how AI may be used in ways that support ministry while also attending to important ethical, theological, and practical questions.
Over the coming months, the task force will:
- Reflect on the theological and ethical considerations related to AI in the life of the Church
- Identify areas where guidance may be helpful for clergy and congregations
- Develop practical recommendations and resources for local churches
The task force brings together individuals with experience in ministry, theology, ethics, education, and technology, reflecting a range of perspectives from across the Conference. The group’s work is expected to result in guidance and resources that will assist churches and leaders as they navigate the evolving role of AI in ministry settings.
