On September 3, 1963, I started Ahrens Trade High School in Louisville KY. The was only one black person in the whole school. It was Richard Richardson. Segregation was standard practice then. No on in school would be friends with him. I DID become his friend. Some of my not to close friends had no more to do with me. However, true friends stayed friends. I was the editor of the monthly Tradesman school newspaper and the Tradesman yearbook. I was liked because I ensured students I would publish their articles in our newspaper!
