Reverend Robert “Buzz” Moore, 91, of Gainesville, VA passed away on March 14, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. Buzz was born on August 22, 1934 in Berryville, VA and was the beloved son of the late Everett and Edith Moore. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jimmy and Cecil, and his wife Jeanette. He is survived by his sisters, Betty Nicodemus and Shirley Freeman; his wife, Dee; and his children, Melanie (Dave), Jackie (Mike-deceased), Kim (Chris), Rob (Amy), and Melissa (Kevin) and many other family members. He was blessed by 12 grandchildren: Natalie, Ian (Kayla), Valerie (Diego), Emily (Alex), Kelsey (deceased), Miles (Sophia), Abby (James), Haley, Sadie, Jordan (Adam), Chase and Paige; and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Harper.

Buzz graduated from Clarke County High School in 1952 and two years later was drafted into the US Army. Upon returning from deployment, he enrolled in Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV.  In 1957, Buzz joined a government agency (of the three-letter variety). While working overseas, Buzz was called to the ministry and in 1958 was assigned to his first church, Rockland Community in Front Royal, VA. It is there he met and married the first love of his life, Jeanette. Over the span of more than 40 years, Buzz and Jeanette served many Virginia churches from the mountains to the seashore, sometimes as many as six at a time. Together they took great pride in raising a loving, close-knit family.  After Jeanette’s death, he was blessed with his second love, Dee.  They married in 2005 and shared many meaningful years together.  They served Bethel United Methodist Church for 13 years until his retirement when they embarked on a life full of friends and great travel adventures.

Buzz was known for his “talking” which made for some great stories. He enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, gardening, and playing cards. He never met a stranger, and just hearing his voice brought comfort to those around him. His witty humor was often followed by many laughs. Always a man of faith, his spiritual guidance and wisdom only continued to grow as he touched the lives of thousands. That faith never wavered, even in his last days when he was determined to go as far as he could for as long as he could. As a servant of God, he lived a life devoted to his faith and his family. His love, wisdom, and example will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Clarendon United Methodist Church, 606 N Irving St, Arlington, VA. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.  Buzz has requested that any clergy in attendance please wear their robes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Marks UMC “Buzz Moore Fund” https://stmarksumc9354.breezechms.com/give/online.
