As the world witnesses the humanitarian crisis occurring in Haiti, after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that crippled an already vulnerable nation, the Virginia Conference is providing the following resources to help the church’s effort to assist the Haitian people.

Remember to keep Haiti and the people in your prayers. Join the prayer vigil for the Haitian people scheduled for August 26, 2021, Thursday at 7 pm.
Prayer vigil is being led by members of the Virginia Conference who joined in previous mission trips to Haiti.

UMCOR International Disaster Relief Fund (#982450) – 100 percent of what is sent to the UMCOR Disaster Relief Fund will aid the recovery effort in Haiti. VAUMC Disaster Relief to Eglise Methodiste d’Haiti – This fund will help the churches of EMH directly impacted by the earthquake to help their recovery. This fund will also be used to provide food, water filters, kits, and traps directly to people in the circuits (districts) impacted. Collect Medical Supplies
The Virginia Conference is partnering with “Food for the Poor” who are gathering medical items to be shipped to Haiti with no cost. Upon arrival in Haiti, the Haitian Methodist Church (EMH) will handle distribution in areas where needed.
Needed items include:
- Braces
- Splints
- Slings
- Crutches
- Walkers
- Bandaging materials (unopened)
- Antiseptics
- Moist towelettes
- Antiseptic swabs
- Water purification tablets
- Nutritious power bars
- Unexpired (to within 6 months) useful in treating diarrhea, abdominal pain, and infection; pain relievers (non-opioids) like aspirin, Tylenol and Ibuprofen; and other meds that could be useful in adults and children who lack good nutrition, including multiple vitamins.
