The Virginia Annual Conference is now accepting nominations for The Harry Denman Evangelism Award for Clergy, Laity and Youth.

The Harry Denman Evangelism Award recognizes a person whose life and ministry exemplifies the teaching of Christ and the Great Commission. Recipients of these awards, nominated by their local church and selected by the Annual Conference, live their call to “Offer Them Christ” daily as modeled by Dr. Harry Denman, founder of The Foundation for Evangelism that sponsors these awards.

Since its inception in 1980, more than 2,600 individuals have been honored with the awards. Think of the multiplying impact on the lives of others these folks have made through their outstanding efforts to help people experience God’s transforming love through Jesus Christ! The Virginia Annual Conference Board of Discipleship would like to announce that we are now accepting applications for the “One Matters Discipleship Award.”  This award will be given to a church with significant improvement of baptisms and professions of faith. “With the One Matters Discipleship Award, we want to lift up the importance of discipleship and help interpret across the connection what zeros in professions of faith and baptism mean and what moving away from the zeros means,” said Jeff Campbell, General Secretary at Discipleship Ministries. “Each “one” in those categories represents a transformed life – a life that matters to God, and a life that should matter to us.”

The award, which includes $1,000 and a One Matters Discipleship Award plaque, will be presented to the pastor and lay leaders of a congregation that has done significant work to make its zeros from previous years become positive numbers.

Criteria for the award is a church that has a history of zero baptisms and zero professions of faith for a minimum of four years and has significant increases in these two areas in 2024. Nominations should include the historical record which can be verified through Year End Statistics for at least four to six years. Included in the application should be a short write-up story of how the church has turned itself around. Nomination forms should be emailed to [email protected]
