The Caretakers of God’s Creation at Mount Olivet fulfill their mandate of faith-based environmental stewardship on individual, community, and state levels.

We draw inspiration and commune with God’s Creation on a personal level through Spirit and Nature walks in Arlington County’s natural areas. These walks incorporate observations of the macro- and micro-scale patterns of seasonal change and participatory readings of poetry evocative of the wonders of existence and the great outdoors.

Further, the Caretakers earn their name, hands-on, through monthly sessions in partnership with the county to maintain our neighborhood, Woodlawn Park. We remove invasive plants, clean up the stream, and plant native trees and underbrush.

Finally, on the State level, members of the Caretakers of God’s Creation engage annually with state legislators at the Virginia General Assembly, advocating for environmental justice and the passage of ecologically and environmentally sound laws.

Through our activities, the Caretakers of God’s Creation aspire to have a positive influence on our committee members, our congregation, and the local community as a whole.
