Dorothy Coffey was the surviving spouse of Rev. John Coffey.

Dorothy Crowder Coffey passed away quietly on Sunday, February 2, 2025, following a prolonged illness at the age of 94.
She is survived by her daughter, MaryScott C. Tuck (Stephen); her granddaughter, Chloe Coffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John; her daughter, Paige Coffey Cirrone (Christopher); her parents, George W. Crowder and Mary B. Crowder; her brothers, George and William; and her sister, Lucille Richardson.
Dorothy grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from George Washington High School. She graduated from James Madison College, (now James Madison University) Class of 1951, with majors in music and early education. She was awarded the JMU Distinguished Alumni Award in 1992, while serving on the JMU Foundation Board.
She started her professional career as an elementary school teacher. Dorothy eventually came into the family business as a bookkeeper and assumed control of Crowder Transfer and Storage in 1975 until its sale in 1996. She served as the president of the Northern Virginia Movers Association. She served two terms as the president of the Virginia Movers and Warehousemen’s Association and was the first woman to serve on the Executive Committee of the American Movers Conference, now the Moving and Storage Conference of the ATA. She was recognized by the City of Alexandria as the Outstanding Business Woman in 1990, and received the Virginia Mover’s Commonwealth Award in 1995.
Dorothy believed in service and was a proud member of Rotary International with more than 20 years of perfect attendance and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was both a committee member and Chair of the Alexandria Chapter of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Glebe, 200 The Glebe Blvd., Daleville, VA on Thursday, February 27, 2025, between 2 and 4 p.m. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 320666, Alexandria, VA 22320, in memory of Dorothy Coffey or to Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
