In the United Methodist Church we believe that all are called to ministry – as lay people serving in our local churches and communities; as lay servants and lay speakers; as certified lay ministers; as deaconnesses and home missioners; as missionaries; as licensed local pastors; and as ordained deacons and elders.

By virtue of our baptisms, every Christian is called by God in a myriad of ways.

Become a Congregation of Call

A Congregation of Call is a Virginia United Methodist congregation that actively fosters a culture in which people of all ages are encouraged to listen for, discern, and respond to God’s call. These congregations help individuals discover their God-given gifts, engage in meaningful ministry, and explore opportunities for leadership and service. They intentionally raise up both lay and clergy leaders, providing encouragement, mentoring, and pathways for growth. By creating space for discernment and faithful response, Congregations of Call participate in God’s ongoing work of transforming lives, communities, and the world.
