2023 Annual Conference Offering #NurturingTogether

The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church is one of the largest annual conferences of The United Methodist Church. We can significantly impact the world when we all come together around a purpose. The groups and ministries supported by the offering change each year, but the goal remains the same: to assist people and ministries, both domestic and international.

The goal of the offering for 2023 is $150,000. This year you are invited to the initiative to #nurture leadership worldwide!

The Virginia Conference will support Refugee Resettlement, Food Insecurity in the Commonwealth,  and Partnerships of Hope’s leadership programs in Brazil, Mozambique, Cambodia, Native Americans, Haiti, and Vietnam through this offering. See below for more information.

The offering will be collected on Saturday, June 17, 2023,  at 9 am.

Thank you for being part of the effort to #nurturingtogether!

Domestic and Worldwide Impact

Refugee Resettlement Support

For more information about VAUMC Refugee Response, click here

The Conference Refugee Response team was created to help churches welcome our many new neighbors from Afghanistan in 2021.  We chose to support the work of the official U.S. resettlement agencies working in Virginia.  The influx of so many immigrants at once, including those who had served alongside American soldiers as translators, put and continues to put a strain on the capacity of these organizations.

Three of those- the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and the Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC)- will receive funds from the Annual Conference offering.  LIRC works in Northern Virginia, IRC is helping our new neighbors in the Richmond and Charlottesville areas, and CCC is active in the Newport News and Roanoke areas.  The slogan of our committee was that the process of being the hands and feet of Christ to our Afghan brothers and sisters would be a marathon and not a sprint has proven true.  There is still much to be done and we invite you to join us in this holy endeavor.

Food Insecurity in the Commonwealth

See how VAUMC supported the efforts of the Federation of Food Banks in 2021 , click here

Long lines across the country, with people waiting in line for food, revealed the food insecurity ordinary people experience. The long-lasting effect of COVID creates more demand for food. The Virginia Annual Conference members’ offering will address this problem and contribute to support and solve food insecurity in the Commonwealth.

Partnerships of Hope

Partnerships of Hope is the official mission of countries/ projects supported by the Virginia Annual Conference. Currently, Partnerships of Hope is serving the following countries; Brazil, Cambodia, Haiti, Mozambique, Native American Ministries, and Vietnam.

All Partnerships of Hope countries focus on leadership development.

Brazil Shade and Fresh Water – SFW provides care, protection, and life skills for at-risk ‘street children in Brazil.

VMI – Leadership Development Young Methodist – POH initiated a partnership with VMI in 2021. Through the partnership, we are hosting leadership development programs to empower the youth of the nation, youth of the nation, who comprise 70% of the country’s population.

Mozambique Cambine Agriculture Program –The Cambine Agriculture program proposes to increase crop and animal production on the United Methodist farmland by acquiring reliable water and a proper irrigation system. In 2022, VAUMC sponsored the egg incubation project, which allows farmers to start chicken farms. Through the support, the local farmers receive training in sustainable agriculture.

Native American Ministries – VAUMC focuses on gathering and empowering the native people in VA. Through the gathering, we foster reconciliation and reimagination of the role of Native people in this nation.
