The United Methodist Church recognizes, embraces, and affirms all persons, regardless of country of origin, as members of the family of God. We urge society to “recognize the gifts, contributions, and struggles of those who are immigrants and to advocate for justice for all.” — Social Principles
Faith & Facts: Civil and Human Rights (General Board of Church & Society)
Become an Immigrant Welcoming Community (General Board of Church & Society)
Advocates and community members can work together to fight messages of fear and panic by helping community members learn about their rights and how to protect themselves from ICE. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center has created a variety of materials to educate the community and prepare individuals for possible encounters with immigration authorities.

Do NOT Intervene. Try not to get arrested. Film and document
When you film or report, look for these things:
1. Identify
2. Record
3. Inform detainees of their rights
4. Ask detainees if they would like you to contact someone
5. Ask agents where they are taking detainees
6. Alert your network and community. Call rapid response or text your neighborhood watch group.
7. Blow your whistle.
When reporting, Don’t:
1. Use vague phrases
2. Assume documentation status of anyone
3. Assume intent
4. Spread unverified rumors.
SALUTE:
Gather and document as much of this info as possible. Note what you see, not what you assume.

In this season, we invite every congregation, small group, and leader to commit to intentional prayer—for our immigrant neighbors, for families living with fear and uncertainty, for those offering care on the front lines of ministry, and for wisdom and courage in our own leadership.
We believe prayer is not a retreat from action, but the ground from which faithful action grows. As Archbishop Desmond Tutu reminds us, “Prayer is not just about asking God for things; it is about aligning ourselves with God’s purposes.” In prayer, we align our hearts with God’s justice, our lives with God’s compassion, and our communities with God’s vision for beloved community.

Dear God,
We pray for justice in our world.
Help us to stand up for what is right and to fight against injustice wherever we see it.
May we be advocates for those who are marginalized and oppressed.
Let our actions contribute to a more just and equitable society.
Thank you for your commitment to justice.
Help us to live out those values in our daily lives.
Guide us to recognize and challenge systems of oppression and inequality,
working toward a more just world.
Help us to act with integrity and fairness in all our dealings,
treating others with respect and dignity.
May we be voices for the voiceless,
standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
We pray for all who are victims of injustice.
Provide them with comfort and support,
and help us to be agents of change.
Thank you for the promise of justice in your kingdom.
Help us to work toward that vision here on earth.
Amen.
