The modern-day death penalty is birthed out of Virginia’s history of slavery, lynching and Jim Crow segregation. As part of the Virginia United Methodist Annual Conference and Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy’s support of legislation to abolish the death penalty, prayer vigils are being held in each region of the Commonwealth, in remembrance of those who lost their lives to lynching.
