Virginia United Methodist Foundation Launches New Endowment to Strengthen Philanthropy and Ministry Across Virginia

RICHMOND, VA. (June 15, 2026) — The Virginia United Methodist Foundation (VAUMF) is proud to announce the launch of the Foundery Endowment, a new philanthropic and development endowment designed to help United Methodist churches and ministries build sustainable financial resources for generations to come. The endowment officially launches on June 15, 2026.

The Foundery Endowment is a modern philanthropic engine that empowers donors to create lasting and faithful impact in their communities through strategic, responsive grantmaking. Building on the Foundation’s long history of supporting churches and ministries, the endowment creates new opportunities for donors to invest in meaningful good and strengthen the future of United Methodist ministry across Virginia.

Since 2013, VAUMF has awarded more than $900,000 in grants to nearly 200 United Methodist churches and ministries throughout the Commonwealth. The Foundery Endowment is designed to expand that impact by growing permanent resources that can support churches, ministries and community initiatives for generations to come.

“The Foundery Endowment is designed to help churches build a strong financial foundation for future ministry,” said the Rev. Dr. Steven J. Summers, VAUMF president and CEO. “By connecting faithful generosity with innovative philanthropy, we can empower more churches to serve their communities, expand their ministries, and create lasting impact. Every gift to the Foundery Endowment becomes an investment in the future of the Church and the communities it serves.”

Building Meaningful Good

Supporting the Foundery Endowment is a meaningful way for donors to invest in the future of United Methodist ministry across Virginia. According to Summers, every gift, whether large or small, helps expand the Foundation’s ability to provide grants, resources and support to strengthen local churches and ministries.

“The Foundery Endowment reflects our belief that faithful stewardship is not simply about preserving resources but multiplying opportunities for ministry,” Summers said. “We look forward to seeing how this endowment empowers churches to dream bigger, serve more boldly, and leave a lasting legacy of faith.”

The official launch of the Foundery Endowment on June 15 marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Foundation’s commitment to helping churches and ministries build stronger financial futures while advancing the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
