The Director of Next Generation Ministries will lead discipleship ministries for children (Nursery–5th Grade) and youth (6th–12th Grade), nurturing their faith through worship, teaching, service, and Christ-centered relationships.

The Director will collaborate closely with the Lead Pastor, staff, volunteers, parents, and families to create a cohesive ministry that engages the next generation and connects them to the wider congregation and the mission of Francis Asbury UMC. Success in this role will be reflected in growing participation, deepening discipleship, and strong partnerships with families.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Children’s Ministry (Nursery-5th Grade)
  • Vision & Strategy: Lead a comprehensive Christian education program for children, selecting and implementing age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with United Methodist theology and the mission of Francis Asbury UMC.
  • Sunday Programming: Coordinate and lead Children’s Church during Sunday worship (currently 9:00-10:00 AM), including clear and safe check-in/check-out procedures in alignment with Safe Sanctuaries.
  • Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for Children’s Church, Nursery, and special events, ensuring all volunteers are background-checked and trained in Safe Sanctuaries policies.
  • Nursery Oversight: Supervise paid nursery staff, ensuring compliance with CPR/First Aid requirements, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Events: Organize and oversee Vacation Bible School (VBS) and seasonal family outreach events (e.g., Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat), coordinating volunteers, promotion, and follow-up with families.

  1. Youth Ministry (6th-12th Grade)
  • Youth Group: Plan and lead a Sunday evening youth group (currently bi-weekly) that includes Bible study, worship, fellowship, and service opportunities, cultivating a safe and Christ-centered community for students.
  • Youth Confirmation: Coordinate and teach (or co-teach) the Confirmation program in partnership with the Lead Pastor, integrating worship participation, retreats, and service components as students prepare to profess their faith.
  • Summer Mission Program: Plan and lead an annual summer mission experience for youth (local or travel), including selecting partnerships, organizing logistics, and leading fundraising, training, and team-building for students and adult leaders.
  • Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, equip, and supervise adult volunteers for youth ministry, ensuring adherence to all Safe Sanctuaries guidelines and maintaining appropriate adult–student ratios at gatherings and trips.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Education, Communications, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience in children / youth ministry Christian education, or non-profit administration will be considered in lieu of a specific degree.
  • Faith Commitment: A mature Christian faith, a heart for the local church, and a commitment to the mission and doctrines of the United Methodist Church, including Safe Sanctuaries practices.

 Key Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to minister effectively to children and youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to recruit, empower, and support volunteers rather than doing the work alone.
  • A collaborative, flexible, and team-oriented spirit.

 Compensation

  • Compensation is $50,000–$60,000 annually, commensurate with education, ministry experience, and qualifications. Benefits include paid time off.
