Wanda Landis was the spouse of Rev. H. Warren Landis.

Wanda Eavey Landis, 96, passed away on Sunday, November 23rd at the Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News, Virginia, where she had been a resident since 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine M. Eavey and Roland D. Eavey; and her four brothers, Roland D. Eavey Jr., Basil L. Eavey, James W. Eavey, and Delano R. Eavey. Wanda is survived by two daughters, Katherine L. Warden, and Nancy L. Rubin; four grandchildren, Robert J. Morrow II (Filiz), Heather A. Hennis, Joshua S. Rubin (Taylor) and Benjamin J. Rubin; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Mt. Solon, Virginia, Wanda graduated Valedictorian from Weyers Cave High School. After earning her associate degree from Shenandoah College, she married Homer W. Landis in 1947. While Warren served as a chaplain at Warner Robins Air Force Base, Wanda volunteered as a “Gray Lady” providing non-medical support services to patients. When Warren left the Air Force to become a Methodist minister, Wanda served faithfully beside him at several churches throughout Virginia. As a minister’s wife, she contributed in many ways—directing the children’s choir, playing the organ, teaching Sunday School, and leading scouts. She also gave piano lessons and taught kindergarten music.

While Warren served at Phoebus United Methodist Church in Hampton, Virginia, Wanda completed her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Christopher Newport College. She went on to teach third grade for many years at Machen and Booker Elementary Schools and later retired from the Hampton City School system.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Assisted Living and Healthcare staff at the Chesapeake Retirement Community and to Hospice Care of Virginia for their loving and compassionate care of Wanda. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church Music Ministry.

A memorial service will be held on December 12, 2025, at 2 pm at the Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News, Virginia followed by a reception. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Arrangements are being provided by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia (757-723-3191).
