Servant Sister Scholarship continues supporting women pursuing theological studies

As we journey together in this Advent, we wait and prepare. And so we join in with those sisters and colleagues who are preparing for ministry. The Servant Sister Scholarship Award, an award offered in partnership with The Clergywomen's Collective is for women who are certified candidates for ministry and called to the ministry of Word, Order, Sacrament, Service or Word, Service, Compassion & Justice; women who have the potential for creating ministries for a more just world.

Already two rounds of scholarships have been given out, and the committee remains committed to their mission of sustaining a fund that will provide at least one scholarship per year for women pursuing theological studies and preparing for ministry in the Virginia Conference. Your gift will assist us in continuing our mission. Please consider making a contribution as an alternative Christmas gift to a loved one, a gift in honor or in memory of someone. No gift is too small. A gift of $500 or whatever you give will translate into hands on ministry. Checks should be written to VA UM Foundation with the memo Servant Sister Scholarship and mailed to PO Box 5605, Glen Allen, VA 23058.

Learn about opportunity to travel, be in mission abroad

Mission Volunteers are individuals or couples (ages 18 and up) who seek more extended partnerships with communities around the world and fund themselves. The length of service ranges from two months to more than two years. Mission Volunteer opportunities range from working with refugees, children, and youth to serving as a teacher, pastor, camp director, or health care professional.

VAUMC Partnerships of Hope encourages conference members to consider being trained and available for service worldwide. Are you in a stage of transition in your life? Graduating from school or entering retirement? Or are you in need of a sabbatical? Mission Volunteers training may be an excellent opportunity to discover a renewed joy in your life.

For VAUMC members attending the upcoming training, Partnerships of Hope will support a portion of the travel cost to participate in the training. For more information visit https://vaumc.org/missionvolunteer/ or contact Serving Ministries.

UMFS December Offering supports high-risk children

United Methodist Family Services (UMFS) is grateful for the faithful support of local churches in the Virginia Conference. Your generous gifts help children in foster care, children struggling with mental health challenges, and special education students get the support they need to thrive.

Your support through the UMFS offering has helped children like Mackenzie. Mackenzie experienced severe trauma as a young child. Her behavioral and mental health challenges continued to escalate. When she was 13, Mackenzie came to UMFS and began a healing journey that would change her life. Today she has a stable home and a job she enjoys. Mackenzie shared that “I never would have thought I’d be where I am today.” Your support through the UMFS December offering will help more children like Mackenzie get the help they need to achieve a brighter future. You can access UMFS bulletin inserts, short videos, images, and more at www.UMFS.org/church. Please contact Jill Gaynor ([email protected] or 804-254-9463) with any questions. Thank you for your support!
