Church’s ministry makes 'safe zone' for young people
"Safe Zone" is a new ministry at Worship and Praise Church in Richmond, Va., providing a safe space for teens on Friday nights. It has only been open since Easter, but the basement space of the church allows kids a place to play games from Xbox to pool to ping pong. More…

Conference offices to close at 1 p.m. on summer Fridays
Virginia Conference offices in the United Methodist Center in Glen Allen will close at 1 p.m. on Fridays between Annual Conference and Labor Day as they have done in the past.

Olde Time Revival to be held at Williamsburg UMC on July 15
An Olde Time Revival, hosted by the Virginia Conference Older Adult Council, will feature dynamic preaching from Bishop Peter Weaver and worship led by Michael Berkley, associate director of music at Woodlake UMC. The event will be held Sunday, July 15 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Williamsburg UMC in Williamsburg. For more information email Carol Bookwalter at

Resources available for local church reports about AC 2018
For members making reports to their local churches about Annual Conference 2018, a summary of the events is available. As well the conference Vimeo page provides access to the “Glory Sightings” videos shown throughout the weekend. The Rev. ♦ SEJ Historical Society Annual Meeting - July 17-20, 2018 
The Virginia Conference Historical Society (VCHS) will host this year’s Southeastern Jurisdiction Historical Society of The United Methodist Church (SEJHS) Annual Meeting, whose theme is Religious Liberty in the Historic Advance of Virginia Methodism. Everyone is invited to the event held from July 17-20 in Williamsburg, Va. Those who participate in all lectures and tours of the Annual Meeting are entitled to receive one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU). The event will include guided tours of Williamsburg churches and Historic Jamestowne, and lecturers delivering the stories of Virginia Methodism - Origins of the Old Brunswick Circuit, Chesapeake Methodism, African Americans and Religious Liberty in Virginia Methodism and The Evangelical United Brethren Church in the Valley of Virginia.  Keynote speaker, David L. Holmes, Walter G. Mason Professor of Religious Studies, Emeritus, College of William and Mary, will discuss Religious Freedom in the Colonial Era. Attendees will also enjoy a banquet celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Uniting Conference. The three-day event costs $85, with tours and dinner meals included. Registration ends July 10.
