June 3, 2019 -- Bishop Pete Weaver and The Center for Clergy Excellence announce the new Associate Director for Call & Discernment, the Rev. Joanna Dietz, effective July 1.

Ordained a deacon in 2010, Dietz is the daughter of an elder in the United Methodist Church (the Rev. Roy Quist) who focused on camping ministries. She moved to several different states and said she is happy to call Virginia her permanent home. She graduated from Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY and was a Music Educator for 10 years before graduating from Wesley Theological Seminary and holding several positions as Minister of Music. She is currently working on her Doctor of Ministry through Wesley Theological Seminary and Wesley House in Cambridge, England, with a focus on Social Holiness, Effective Leadership and Ministry with the World.

Dietz’s home church is Vale United Methodist Church. She has served as Minister of Music and Congregational Care at Sterling UMC and St. George’s UMC.

Most recently she has served as Minister of Mission and Service at Braddock Street United Methodist Church (Winchester District), where she was actively involved in bridge building between the church and the community. They formed a nonprofit organization called Winchester Together.

In addition to her formal church work, Dietz said she loves being a connector. She has created groups of support for certified candidates and for those working in serve ministries in the church. She has served on the Winchester District DCOM and on the Deacon Steering Committee. She has led numerous retreats around the conference, was the music leader for Annual Conference, and has been on the design team for Clergy Convocation.

“I am passionate about relationships. Of all the things we do in ministry, building and maintaining healthy relationships is critical. Once these are established, we are able to accomplish great things together and encourage others to soar in whatever area God calls them.”
