Meet the Conference Lay Leader

Warren R. Harper grew up in Northern New Jersey and retired to Williamsburg and has lived there for the past 13 years. He is married to Sandy and they have one son, and three grandchildren.

Warren is a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Warren teaches lay leadership for the York River District and is a member of the York River District Committee of Ordained Ministry.

Warren has been Conference Lay Leader since 2012. He has served on several task force committees, serves as Co-chair of the Common Table and CLDDT Committees. Warren serves as president of the Board of Laity, is a member of the Episcopacy Committee and was a Delegate to the 2016 General and Jurisdictional Conferences. He attended two meetings of the former Congress on Evangelism, was a table facilitator at the 2011 Multicultural Conference at Lake Junaluska, and was a nominee for the 2012 General and Jurisdictional Conferences.

While in New Jersey he served seven years as the Conference Director of Lay Speaking, four years as Conference Lay Leader of the Northern New Jersey Annual Conference, served as District Lay Leader, District Director of Lay Speaking, Committee on the Episcopacy, Camps Conferences and Retreat Committee and chaired the Board of Laity and as a member of the Conference Council on Ministries.

Warren said he feels our church faces choices. God’s choice is for all of us to love as Jesus taught us. We have committed ourselves to be in ministry with all people, as we, in faithfulness to the gospel, seek to grow in mutual love and trust.
