Director of Music Ministries

Heritage United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach VA is seeking a part time Director of Music Ministries, beginning on July 1, 2025.

The Director of Music Ministries works with the pastor, church staff, and various church committees to plan, implement music during all Sunday worship and special services as directed by the Pastor, and providing spiritual growth and education in the areas of music.

This is a part-time position that requires participation in Sunday morning worship services, occasional special services, and an evening choir rehearsal each week. Paid leave is provided for two Sundays and two choir rehearsals. Additional leave time may be approved by the Staff Parish Relations Committee with as much notice as possible provided to the Pastor for worship preparation.

Job Responsibilities include:
Supervising the entire music ministry.
Conducing regular weekly rehearsal with the adult choir.
Recruiting new members for the choir.
Working within the music budget.
Providing insight, illumination, and education regarding the choices of music made for worship, to include both traditional and contemporary music selection.
Attending monthly worship meetings with the Pastor/Worship Chairperson, as well as church council meetings and/or providing a report regarding the music ministries, only if unable to attend said meetings. Attendance is highly recommended.
Attending Staff Pastor Relations Committee (SPRC) meetings as requested.
Providing weekly music selections to the pastor and/or church secretary in a timely manner.
Working cooperatively with the keyboardist so that the music ministry of the church can be as effective as possible.
Providing keyboard assistance in the absence of the keyboardist, preferred.
