Director of Congregational Care

Williamsburg United Methodist Church, located in historic Williamsburg VA next to the College of William and Mary, is seeking a 30+ hour Director of Congregational Care (DCC).  In collaboration with the pastoral team, Program Staff and Lay Leadership, the DCC will oversee and further develop lay-led congregational ministries (including extant Stephen Ministry, Shepherd’s Fold, CARE team, Memorial Garden, and Respite Care ministries).  The DCC will oversee and coordinate Older Adult Ministries with persons unable to regularly participate in the congregational life of the church (persons of all ages who are in long-term care, hospitalized or incapacitated).  The DCC is also expected to contribute to worship/counseling/educational outreach in local residential communities.  The DCC will coordinate our broader pastoral care ministry, in consultation with the Pastoral team, staff and lay persons involved in congregational care.  The DCC will also provide supervision to the Director of Respite Care and serve as staff liaison to the Respite Care Board.  The DCC should have a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in religious studies, pastoral counseling, or related field, and 3-plus years in pastoral care/counseling in a local church setting.  A Master of Divinity or other seminary degree, Advanced Care Planning Certification, completion of Clinical Pastoral Educational Residency, or ordination in the UMC or other denomination is preferred.  Interested candidates may email a cover letter and resume to [email protected]
