Daily Scripture and Prayer: Psalm 93

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,

the floods have lifted up their voice;

the floods lift up their roaring waves.

The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters,

yes, than the mighty waves of the sea.

———————————

It’s summertime, and many are heading to the lake, the pool, or the ocean.

Government restrictions are easing, and we cannot wait to get our feet wet.

The next time you head to the water, take time to listen.

The water speaks, if we pay attention.

In the old days the Cherokee would wade out waist deep just after daybreak.

They would throw the water over their heads and say, ‘Wash away anything that may hinder me from being closer to you, God.’

And then they would add their own intentions — for a good life, or for a good relationship with brothers or sisters.

Seven times, they would throw the water over themselves.

But they did not go just to tell God what they wanted.

They went to listen to the murmuring voice of the river.

Like the Psalmist, they knew the Voice of God was on the waters.

God is mightier than the waves of the sea.

God is mightier than the waves of infection.

God’s voice is roaring above all the noise.

If you have trouble hearing Him, just listen to the water.

As I went down in the river to pray

Studying about that good ol’ way

And who shall wear the starry crown

Good Lord, show me the way

O sisters, let’s go down

Let’s go down, come on down

O sisters, let’s go down

Down in the river to pray
