2019 Lay Servant Academy, Aug. 2-4, Randolph-Macon College, Ashland

Lay Servants are to serve the local church or charge in any way in which their witness or leadership and service inspires the laity to deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship.The Lay Servant Academy is designed for all laity, not just lay servants. Courses are designed to support those seeking to become Certified Lay Servants and Certified Lay Speakers.

District Training Events

Information is posted about Lay Servant Ministries training opportunities on the district level as it is received. Individuals can participate in learning opportunities on any district. Most courses are held in the spring and fall. You may want to check individual district websites and newsletters for course availability.   

Rappahannock River District, May 3 & 4
Warsaw UMC, 287 Main Street, Warsaw
Classes will include the Basic Course, Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts, Polity in the UM Church, Leading Worship, and Intentional Discipleship Making.

BeADisciple.com hosts online courses which have been approved by the General Board of Discipleship as advanced courses in Lay Servant Ministries.BeADisciple.com is one of several programs of the Institute for Discipleship at Southwestern College, a United Methodist institution in Winfield, Kansas. Several of the courses also offer 1 CEU for clergy and other staff.  You can find upcoming LSM courses on the www.beadisciple.com website as well as studies through The Upper Room, courses from the YouthWorker Movement, and Safe Sanctuaries training.
