The 2016 session of the Virginia Annual Conference will be held June 17-19 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke. Theme of the 2016 Annual Conference is “Thy Will Be Done.” The logo was developed by Cathryn Huff, contract graphic designer for the conference Communications office.

Communications office selling DVD honoring Bishop Cho
The conference Communications office is selling a DVD honoring Bishop Young Jin Cho. The DVD will include Bishop Cho's Episcopal Address at the 2016 Annual Conference, his sermon at 2016 Annual Conference closing worship and the 2016 Annual Conference celebration of his ministry (including the video highlighting his ministry that was shown as part of that celebration). Cost is $10. Deadline to order is July 25. Click here to order.

Participate in Sunday Morning Worship Service Bulletin
Please note the bulletin was updated on June 9: Local churches may show the live video of the Annual Conference worship service during their Sunday morning worship services and participate by following the liturgy for the service. If your congregation will be participating in the Annual Conference worship service, please send an email to Communications@vaumc.org and indicate the name of your church and district and how many people are expected to participate. The Annual Conference Planning Committee will be holding all participants in prayer.

Consent Agenda
The 2016 Annual Conference Consent Agenda is now available by clicking here (pdf). The Consent Agenda includes items and reports not requiring action by the Annual Conference other than a vote to receive them. According to Conference Rules, a minimum of 30 members of Annual Conference may request removal of an item from the Consent Agenda. Forms to request removal of items from the Consent Agenda will be at the front of the stage at Annual Conference and must be returned to the “secretarial inbox” at the corner of the stage by 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 17.

Annual Conference preachers
Bishop Young Jin Cho announced that the preacher for the Saturday evening ordination service will be Bishop Mark Webb from the Upper New York Annual Conference. Preacher for the Saturday morning mission service will be the Rev. Eun Pa Hong from Bupyeong Methodist Church in South Korea. Preacher for the Friday evening memorial service will be the Rev. Myrtle Frances Hatcher. Preacher for the retirement service will be the Rev. Jim Tongue. Annual Conference teacher will be Dr. L. Gregory Jones, Duke Divinity School. More ...

Annual Conference Special Offering
Bishop Young Jin Cho announced that the 2016 Annual Conference offering goal will be $150,000 and again focus on both international and Virginia-based mission needs. The offering goal includes:
$50,000 for Methodist Mission in Cambodia;
$25,000 for Methodist Church of Brazil programs with at-risk children;
$25,000 for training laity in United Methodist churches in Mozambique; and
$50,000 to help fund disaster response in the Virginia Conference. More ...

Clergy Pictorial Directory Photos
This year the Virginia Conference will publish a new online Pictorial Directory of the Virginia Conference Ministry featuring photos of all clergy, diaconal ministers, certified professionals, those serving as pastoral supply, retired bishops and conference staff. Remember Church Directories will have a booth in the exhibit hall at Annual Conference from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, to take photos. All clergy (active and retired), diaconal ministers, certified professionals, those serving as pastoral supply, retired bishops and conference staff attending Annual Conference are asked to go to the booth during those times to have your photo taken. No reservations are needed. Two photographers will be available, so there should not be long waits. Child Care
Bonsack United Methodist Church (4493 Bonsack Rd.) will be hosting paid child care during Annual Conference this year. Child care is available for ages 0 through rising 6th graders and will be offered Friday, June 17, 12:30-5:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 20, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 21, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. NO WALK-IN CHILD CARE WILL BE AVAILABLE. Computer-Assisted Notetaking
Individuals are needed who can offer their time and talent in communicating the spoken word to persons who need computer assisted note-taking during Annual Conference. Assistance is needed to type text of reports, worship and music using Microsoft Word, at times as the speaker is presenting. Good typing speed and accuracy is a must! Individuals will be needed for all sessions for shifts of one hour or longer. Kits for Conference
Various types of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Supply Kits will be collected at the 2016 Virginia Annual Conference session. Kit collection is being conducted to replenish the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) supply. Local churches are encouraged to collect items for any of the most requested UMCOR kits — Bedding, Birthing, Cleaning, Health, Layette, School and Sewing Kits — and bring them to Annual Conference.  Please note that Health and School Kits are most needed this year. (Please bring the kits in boxes [not bags], labeled and with a count of the items). For kit instructions, go to http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies. Kits should be taken to the two tractor-trailers at the far end of the Berglund Center Parking lot A, near the intersection of Williamson Road and Orange Ave. (across from the Sheetz Gas Station). Kits will be received 12-5 p.m. Thursday, June 16; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, June 17; and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, June 18.  Send cash for kits directly to conference treasurer. If you prefer to contribute cash to enable UMCOR to purchase relief kits, you can contribute $50 for each bedding kit, $8 for each birthing kit, $65 for each cleaning kit, $12 for each health kit,  $45 for each layette kit, $11 for each school kit, and $28 for each sewing kit. In addition, UMCOR asks for $1 per kit ($1.50 for cleaning buckets) to cover processing and shipping and $1 for toothpaste for each health kit. Please do NOT bring checks to Annual Conference. ALL checks (for processing and shipping, for toothpaste and in lieu of providing kits) should be made payable to “Virginia Conference UMC,” earmarked for “kits” and mailed to Treasurer, Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5605, Glen Allen, VA 23058 any time prior to Annual Conference, and no later than Aug. 31.

Virtual Promo Packet - Click here to see this year's packet
In an effort to be good stewards of the environment and financial resources of the conference, the Annual Conference “promo packets” will again this year be virtual. Electronic copies of materials previously submitted in hard copy for the tote bag will be accepted – at no cost to the organizations submitting them – for inclusion in the Virtual Promo Packet,  which will be posted on the conference website beginning June 1. Those organizations still wishing to disseminate their information in a hard-copy format may arrange for a display table at the Berglund Center by contacting Joanna Paysour at (540) 989-3673 or JoannaPaysour@vaumc.org. Display guidelines and a Display Request form are also available above. Information for the Virtual Promo Packet needs to be submitted in pdf format to the Office of Connectional Ministries (BevMyers@vaumc.org) for approval by Friday, May 20.

Volunteer Opportunities During Conference
Volunteers are needed for Annual Conference that will be held June 17-19 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke. You can sign up to help as an Usher/Greeter, with Registration, to collect UMCOR Kits, with Set-Up or Pack-Up, assist in the Parking Lot, with the Potato Drop with the Society of St. Andrews, or collect for CANS 4 Conference. More volunteers are needed for this year’s “Kits for Conference” collection at Annual Conference. You can help (1) write information on a clipboard; (2) sort kits; (3) seal boxes; or (4) load boxes onto the tractor-trailers. Per Diem Voucher and EFT Payment Information Request for Annual Conference
By conference action, retirees, persons receiving their first appointment, and eligible others listed in the Book of Reports are authorized to receive reimbursement for expenses to attend Annual Conference, not to exceed $100 per day and subject to limitations of conference approved rates. Vouchers can be obtained by clicking here (pdf). The Conference Treasurer’s office is encouraging all reimbursements to be made by direct deposit. Instructions are attached to the voucher to make provisions for direct deposit. Vouchers will not be accepted after July 31.
