Pastor speaks at World Methodist Evangelism Conference
The Rev. Josh Orndorff, Mt. Hermon UMC, was invited to speak as the keynote speaker at the World Methodist Evangelism Conference in Suva, Fiji in October 2024. World Methodist Evangelism is a connection point for Christians within the global Wesleyan family who are dedicated to becoming agents of transformation by sharing the Gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit. Begun in 1971, WME brings together over 80 denominations within the wide range of Wesleyan Methodist traditions, including over 84 million Christians in 134 countries. Orndorff’s presentation, "Living Your Calling," focused on how to live out your calling while avoiding the various pitfalls and how churches can cultivate a culture of calling. “The biblical witness attests to many individuals (e.g. Moses, David, Jonah, etc.) who faced challenges as they sought to answer their calling,” Orndorff said. “It also provides important examples and guidance on how to faithfully live into their calling. The hope is for churches to create space and develop a culture where people can "dream dreams and receive visions" for how the Holy Spirit is calling them to use their gifts to reach others for the kingdom of God.” One of the main takeaways from the experience from Orndorff was the passion for learning by the participants. “The participants in the conference were so hungry to learn new ways to share their faith and answer their calling,” Orndorff said. “As I work as a Spiritual Leadership Inc. coach with pastors and local churches, I hope to see a similar desire to learn so each church can live into its mission. Another takeaway was the affirmation of my dissertation research on calling. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Strategic Leadership Studies at James Madison University. I am renewed in my motivation and inspiration to continue my research to help the church cultivate a culture where people can answer God's call in a way to be healthy and effective.”
