VAUMC sends off over 1,500 flood buckets for hurricane recovery efforts
|
|
|
Thank you, VAUMC! Over 1,500 cleaning (flood) buckets made their way to the conference center at Glen Allen and are now in route to Mission Central where they will then be dispersed.
|
Another round of bucket collection at the VAUMC conference center will happen on Friday, November 1 at 12 p.m. Our districts will work to collect buckets from their designated drop off sites and bring them to Glen Allen to be blessed, packed, and sent on their way to serve those most in need.

Bishop Sue takes on new denomination role
Bishop Sue will be taking on a new role in the denomination. She was appointed president of the Board of Directors for Global Ministries in the Fall Board Meeting of Higher Education and Ministry and Global Ministries.

Update to Action Taken at Annual Conference 2024
At the 2024 Virginia Annual Conference in Hampton, Va. a motion was made and approved by the body of the Annual Conference for a Commission of Truth Telling and Reconciliation to be formed during 2024-2025 in order to listen to stories of harm and move in creative modes of reconciliation toward LGBTQ+ persons.

In response to this Annual Conference action, Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson has designated the Rev. Mark Ogren, VAUMC retired elder, to lead this effort.

The Rev. Dr. Gary Mason will act as consultant to this effort.

Re-watch Soul Feast webinar
Bishop Sue and Martha Stokes, conference lay leader, invite the Virginia Conference to explore spiritual disciplines from September 2024 to June 2025. The book, Soul Feast, by Marjorie J. Thompson will help guide this initiative with a different spiritual practice focus each month. On the first Monday of each month, there will be a live webinar to discuss the next spiritual discipline and suggested resources will also be shared.

Open enrollment begins Oct. 7
Open Enrollment for 2025 Benefit Plan Elections will begin on Monday, October 7 and end on Thursday, October 31.
|
Open Enrollment is the annual period when all benefits eligible Virginia Conference clergy and lay employees can enroll in or make changes to their benefit plan elections for 2025. As a reminder, health plan eligibility is available to full-time active clergy serving at churches and certain approved ministries and full-time lay employees of churches serving as plan sponsors.
