President's Message by Albert Weal, Jr.
The Details of Our Lives
If a person consecrates to the Lord any inherited landholding, its assessment shall be in accordance with its seed requirements: fifty shekels of silver to a homer of barley seed. (Leviticus 27:16).
In those days when there was again a great crowd without anything to eat, he called his disciples and said to them, “I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way—and some of them have come from a great distance.” (Mark 8:1-3)
In the Old Testament, the Lord very much cares for the people of Israel and spells out very specific details about how they should behave. Be it the instructions in the law, the configuration of the tabernacle, or the plans for building the Temple, God is very detail oriented. Consider as well the records of the censuses in the Old Testament. Names are recorded for posterity in God’s Word indicating God’s love and care for each of us. The Lord wants to be in relationship with Israel and very much understands their lives.
Much of Jesus’ ministry is spent teaching and healing the afflicted. Jesus knew the needs of the crowds that gathered constantly. Jesus had compassion on the crowd, those whom he healed, and those that touched him seeking healing. Jesus cared about the specific details of their lives.
During this season of Lent, be aware that Jesus cares about and wants to be involved with the details of your life. I sincerely hope you will join us tonight as David Bean discusses mentoring and ways to grow closer to Christ through a study of Chris Folmsbee's book The Wesley Challenge: 21 Days to a More Authentic Faith. Connection details for tonight’s webinar are below.
