Disability Awareness Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017

“Disability Awareness Sunday shall be observed annually on a date to be determined by the annual conference. Disability Awareness Sunday calls the Church to celebrate the gifts and graces of persons with disabilities and calls the Church and society to full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the community.”  2012  Book of Discipline paragraph 265.4

The Virginia Annual Conference has designated the first Sunday in February (2-5-17) as Disability Awareness Sunday.  If this does not suit a church’s schedule, The Commission on Disabilities encourages all churches to designate another Sunday in February as Disability Awareness Sunday.

Resources from Heart Havens may be used and adapted to fit your situation. (http://www.hearthavens.org/resources/worship-resources). The General Conference has provided resources at umdisabilityministries.org.  There are also resources on the General Church website from previous years.  Go to vaumc.org and in the upper left hand search box type Disability Awareness Sunday or click here to visit the conference's Disabilities page.

Thank you for including this as part of your worship.
