Meet the Conference Lay Leader

Warren R. Harper grew up in Northern New Jersey and has lived in Williamsburg for the past six years. He is married to Sandy and they have one adult son and have two granddaughters.

Warren is a member of the Wellspring United Methodist Church in Williamsburg where he has been active in many areas of church life. He was a member and Chair of the Church Council, currently a member of SPRC and has taught short term Bible study on several occasions.

He has been active on the Peninsula and York River districts as Council on Ministries chairperson, most recently as Lay Leader. Warren has served on the District All Things New Committee, Ordained Ministry, Finance, Superintendency, Board of Missions, and Nominations Committees and has attended local church charge conferences annually with the district superintendents.

Warren has been active on the conference level. While in New Jersey he served seven years as the Conference Director of Lay Speaking, four years as Conference Lay Leader of the Northern New Jersey Annual Conference, served as District Lay Leader, District Director of Lay Speaking, Committee on the Episcopacy, Camps Conferences and Retreat Committee and chaired the Board of Laity and as a member of the Conference Council on Ministries. Here in Virginia he has attended two meetings of the Congress on Evangelism, was a table facilitator at the 2011 Multicultural Conference at Lake Junaluska, member of the Board of Laity and was a nominee for the 2012 General and Jurisdictional Conferences.

Warren is confident the laity of the Virginia Annual Conference are a called people who will continue to find creative ways to tell their personal story more often. Partnering with our clergy will enable us to engage more people, more diverse people, more young people to make more and better Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
