Every local church is urged to celebrate Christian Education Sunday. The Virginia Annual Conference had designated that each local church shall observe Christian Education Sunday on a Sunday during September and October and receive an offering to help support the educational ministries of the districts and the conference.

The Board of Discipleship retains 50% of the funds remitted for conference programs, and 50% is returned to the districts for programs in education and leadership development. The Board believes that effective Christian education involves a partnership between the laity and the clergy as both are informed and shaped through appropriate training, resourcing, and learning experiences.
