"All Things New" Stewardship Workshops will be offered this Fall
A top professional consulting company will conduct a series of church stewardship workshops throughout the Virginia Conference this fall as part of the conference’s “All Things New” strategy to revitalize existing congregations and start new faith communities. President Obama to participate in Aug. 19 health-care reform call-in
co-sponsored by United Methodist Board of Church & Society

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United Methodist General Board of Church & Society (GBCS) is co-sponsor of an unprecedented nationwide faith-community call-in and audio webcast on health-care reform featuring President Obama on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Virginia Conference annual Disaster Response training event cancelled
The Virginia Conference’s annual Disaster Response Academy, originally scheduled for this weekend at the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center in Blackstone, was cancelled due to low registration. Conference Disaster Response Coordinator the Rev. Bob Pihlcrantz said in a notice that he will try to schedule a training event for spring 2010.

Sept. 6 Labor Day Offering will support workplace chaplains
The Virginia Conference will mark Sunday, Sept. 6, as Labor Day Offering Sunday for Industrial and Commercial Ministries (ICM). ICM, through volunteer chaplains, brings “a caring presence” to thousands each week at their places of employment. These chaplains, lay and clergy, serve in hospitals, nursing homes, fire, rescue and police departments, factories, auto dealerships, fitness centers and airports, making visits each week. Your gifts will enable ICM to equip, train and place new chaplains and provide “a caring presence” in the workplace. Bishop Schnase to lead Leadership Transformation training Sept. 17-19
Bishop Robert Schnase, author of Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, will provide participants with tools necessary to implement the five practices in their ministry settings. The Rev. Rudy Rasmus of St. John's UMC, Houston, will lead workshops on ministry with the poor. Guest preacher is the Rev. Dr. Dorothy Watson-Tatem of the Pennsylvania Conference Urban Ministries. Saturday's agenda includes special breakout sessions for African-American, Asian, Multi-Cultural, Hispanic/Latino, small membership, and mid-size membership ministry settings. More ...

UMVIM Team Leader training to be held Oct. 24 at Kenbridge UMC
The 2009 Virginia Conference United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) Team Leader training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24,at Kenbridge United Methodist Church Kenbridge, Va. Team Leader Training is required for all first-time UMVIM team leaders leading teams locally, nationally, or globally; but all interested persons are welcome to attend whether leading a team or not.
