Pray. Give. Connect. Help Haiti earthquake victims

Following the massive earthquake in Haiti, United Methodists are asked to: 1) Pray for Haiti and for those involved in rescue efforts; 2) Give generously to United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR); 3) Assemble and ship health kits to UMCOR. Click here for information from the conference Disaster Response Coordinator.

Virginia Conference churches are urged to take a special offering for Haiti earthquake recovery. Donations can be sent to the Conference Treasurer’s office designated for UMCOR Haiti Emergency Advance #418325.

Go to www.umc.org/haiti for news of the United Methodist Church in Haiti and resources for churches and members who want to help.

Volunteer information is on the Southeast Jurisdiction United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) Web site, www.umvim.org.

5 Talent Academy

Sally Morgenthaler, nationally recognized leader in worship evangelism, will be featured speaker at the second 5 Talent Academy teaching event 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Cosby High School in south Richmond (near Woodlake UMC). Morgenthaler is known best for her book, "Worship Evangelism." She helps missional congregations innovate ministry that begins in neighborhoods and workplaces. She also helps congregations craft corporate worship experiences that reflect this key shift. Morgenthaler teaches on culture and leadership at Fuller, George Fox and Asbury seminaries. Churches that are members of the Academy can click here to register.

Churches interested in enrolling in the 5 Talent Academy are invited to do so by completing the covenantal agreements and returning them to the Conference Office of Church Development and Evangelism before Feb. 10. The 5 Talent Academy is designed to help existing congregations grow in fruitfulness and multiplication of ministries centering on worship, mission, discipleship, evangelism and stewardship. Churches of all sizes, contexts and stages are welcome and invited to be part of this exciting new work. Click here for forms and additional information.
